By interacting with any Beyond the Plus (subsequently referred to as “Bt+”) platform, service, account, resource, or event (subsequently referred to as “services”), whether online or offline, including, but not limited to, the Bt+ website and in-person events, you agree to the following terms and conditions (subsequently referred to as “policies”), which apply to all Bt+ services. These policies are subject to change, with or without notice.
Conduct Policies
Bt+ expects that members adhere to the following policies to ensure the safety of the organization and its members:
1. Unlawful Conduct
Bt+ categorically does not encourage, condone, or support any violation of the law as it exists today. Furthermore, Bt+ treats actions which may expose the organization to legal risks very seriously. As such, the following policies will be strictly enforced, with no exceptions and zero tolerance for failure to comply:
- Members may not utilize any Bt+ service to facilitate or engage in any form of unlawful activity whatsoever. Furthermore, any admission to unadjudicated unlawful activity, whether explicit or clearly implied, is categorically unwelcome on Bt+ services.
- Members may not publicly encourage, condone, or support violation of the law, nor do so on any Bt+ service.
-
Members may not be under active investigation, prosecution, incarceration, or probation for any crime, nor be publicly known to a reasonable standard of certainty to be engaged in any unadjudicated crime. If any of these situations begin after obtaining membership in Bt+, members are expected to notify Bt+ and cease interacting with Bt+ in any way not required by law until none of these situations apply.
For the purposes of this policy, a reasonable standard of certainty can be said to be present if a member publicly makes a clear implication of involvement in unadjudicated crime, even if the statement isn’t worded explicitly.
2. Harassment
Members may not intentionally or knowingly harm, harass, or cause other forms of distress to other Bt+ members. This includes, but is not limited to, malicious misleading, insults, intimidation, bullying, unauthorized disclosure of personal information (“doxxing”), and physical assault.
3. Discretion
Bt+ is inherently an organization of and for some of the world’s most marginalized beings. In order to ensure that members are able to feel as safe as reasonably possible participating, members may not intentionally or knowingly release non-public information about Bt+, its activities, or other members, either publicly or privately, to non-members. This includes, but is not limited to, non-public details about Bt+’s internal operation, information about upcoming events which hasn’t been announced to the public yet, and any non-public personal information about other members. This includes, but is not limited to, the information that other members are members of Bt+, if they have not made that fact public.
For the purposes of this policy, members will be held to a high standard of ensuring any information they disclose to non-members is public, and should assume that confidentiality is the default unless firmly known otherwise.
4. Divisive Behavior
Members may not intentionally or knowingly initiate discourse or drama which is considered by Bt+ leadership to be highly divisive, and which Bt+ does not have an official position on. This includes, but is not limited to, the subject of unlawful conduct relating to paraphilias (“contact discourse”).
5. Misrepresentation
Members may not intentionally or knowingly make claims or implications which misrepresent the positions or activities of Bt+. Furthermore, any representation made by a member of any Bt+ position or activity must be based on a reasonable best-faith understanding of the applicable position or activity, i.e., not having a careless or baseless relation to fact.
6. Discrimination
Members must make all reasonable efforts to respect the personally identifying characteristics of other members, including, but not limited to, attractions (including, but not limited to, sexual orientation, gender attraction, age attraction, and species attraction), identity (including, but not limited to, gender identity, age identity, species identity, and ethnic identity), gender, sex, race, ethnicity, and religion. This includes, but is not limited to, using the correct pronouns and identifying terminology which members have communicated are applicable to them. Members may not discriminate against other members based on personally identifying characteristics.
7. Decisions by Bt+
Bt+ is dedicated to being answerable to its members, and ensuring its members have a voice. However, in order to ensure smooth operation and avoid disruptive debate in inappropriate contexts, members must respect decisions made by Bt+ leadership, including, but not limited to, decisions regarding Bt+ policies and violations thereof. Members must abide by these decisions as binding, and any communicated objections to, or criticism of, these policies must either be raised privately to Bt+ leadership or raised in channels or venues explicitly designated for the purpose of frank policy discussion.
8. Harm to Bt+
Members may not intentionally or knowingly engage in other behavior which Bt+ determines to be harmful to the organization or against the spirit in which its policies are intended. A good guideline is to follow the organization's principles of Autonomy, Equality, Sex Positivity, Queerness, Love, and Unity.
Jurisdiction
Bt+ and its policies are are subject to the laws of the city of Seattle, the state of Washington, the United States of America, and international law. Any reference to legality is understood to refer to these applicable laws.
Policy Enforcement
If Bt+ leadership becomes aware of a possible policy violation, leadership will investigate and/or review the issue as soon as reasonably possible. Determination of whether a policy has been violated will be made at Bt+’s sole discretion. Consequences for policy violation will vary depending on the following factors:
- How clear the evidence is that a policy was violated.
- The severity of the violation.
- The member’s behavior in the past, including, but not limited to, previous disciplinary actions.
Possible consequences include warning, suspension of membership for a specific duration, indefinite suspension of membership pending voluntary appeal, and permanent termination of membership. Members who are suspended or terminated will have any/all of their Bt+ accounts deactivated, and they will be barred from all Bt+ events, whether offline or online.
Members who have been subject to suspension may appeal their suspension. During an appeal, the member must provide additional statements and/or evidence corroborating their claim that the suspension was disproportionate. Bt+ will review the appeal, and may or may not choose to remove restrictions applied, at Bt+'s sole discretion. Termination of membership is not subject to appeal.
Service Provision
These terms and conditions, as well as applicable law, represent the sole agreement made between members and Bt+. Bt+ services are provided as-is and with no implicit guarantees of any kind whatsoever.
Voluntary Termination
You may withdraw consent to these terms and conditions at any time by ceasing to interact with all Bt+ services, and, if you are a registered member, contacting membership@beyondtheplus.org to request termination of your account.
